Powersails™ is a state of the art wind turbine that blends airfoil shapes and structures with ultralight, super strong fabric. Powersails™ begins to rotate in 1.5 MPH winds and produce power in 4 MPH winds. While traditional small wind turbines require steady winds and high elevation to produce enough power to justify their initial cost, Powersails™ owners can produce power with lower, turbulent winds typically seen in urban areas. Powersails™ goal is to make renewable power of wind affordable, accessible and justifiable. With multiple Powersails™ options we can customize your wind turbine to match your energy needs and site resources.

Powersails™ is available as a unit anchored permanently on an installed concrete foundation, designed and engineered for up to a 55’ tower. The Powersails™ can be retrofit to most current wind turbine set-ups. See below for the pricing break-down of the stand alone unit. Powersails™ is also available as a complete, mobile package. We offer Power on Demand (POD), a delivery container and structural platform for the Powersails™. After minimal site preparation and assembly you are ready to produce power with out the need for a permanent installation.

Powersails™ versatility allows for grid-tie as well as off grid applications. What this means is you can either set up Powersails™ to send your excess power back to the power grid or store for future use. In most cases, when excess power is sent back to the grid, you earn a credit from your power company. If you decide you want to have a grid-tie system we recommend you call your power company to find out if they offer a net metering program. If they offer a program most likely there is a separate meter that will need to be purchased from the electric company and installed. If you decide to stay off-grid, the electricity you create is yours and can be stored. The below image gives you an example of the off grid set up vs grid-tie.

Options When Ordering

  • Multiple sail array options including 2, 3, 5 and 6 sails. Let our experts help you determine your sail needs.
  • Check out the POD Configuration to make your Powersails™ a mobile power generator and charging station.
  • Customize your Powersails™: choose color or add a design to your sails, choose a Powersails™ POD frame color, and add a vinyl skin to design your POD exterior. Take design a step further and use your Powersails™ to advertise your message. Additional costs may apply.

  • Powersails™ come with different power options including our 6 KW, 10 KW, and 12 KW generators. Customize your power output to your needs. Let us help you determine which option is the best for you.
  • Grid-tie and off grid options are available. Depending on your needs, Powersails™ can be connected to the grid so you can sell your excess power (a separate meter will be needed from your power company) or can be set up as an off-grid device. Just set up the device and start generating your own power.

Fiberglass Retrofit Sail
Fiberglass Retrofit Sail
A limitation for Powersails™ is freezing temperatures. The cloth sail material can freeze and potentially tear causing inefficiencies. For harsh environments that freeze longer than 8 weeks annually we offer a retrofit kit that converts Powersails™ to a traditional, fiberglass, 3 blade design. Our engineering team is diligently working on solutions for freezing environments for our standard Powersails™. For the retrofit to produce 12kw, however, the rotor diameter increases from 17.5 feet for Powersails™ to 27.5 for Reinforced Fiberglass and the height of the monopole increases by 16 feet. As electrical costs continue to rise consumers will look for sustainable alternatives to traditional electricity sources. Wind power is one of the most abundant and least expensive sources in creating clean, renewable power. Traditional wind turbines require significant space and pristine winds to operate efficiently. Powersails™ unique design allows the footprint of the entire system to be relatively small while also producing power in turbulent winds. Powersails™ are manufactured in the United States, creating jobs while protecting the environment. Contact us to let us help you determine if wind power is right for you.
